9H vs 10H Ceramic Coating: Which One is Right for Your Car?

What does "H" rating really mean?
The H rating indicates the hardness of the pencil. It is a scratch-resistant test in which the tips of the stiffening pencil are rubbed onto the treated surface. 9H means that coating resists scratches from 9H pencil; 10H is the next level.

This is not a tough measure. PPF is still required to protect against impact under real circumstances.

Difference in the real world
There are three differences between 9H and 10H ceramic coatings:

During washing, scratch resistance - 10H reduces the micro scratches caused by washing more effectively than 9H.
The 10H formula typically contains more solids and produces more bright and deeper light.
Sustainability: The 10H coatings offer a 5 - 7 year warranty while the 9H has a 3-5 year warranty.

When is 9H the right option?
Select 9H if:

This is your first ceramic coating and you want to test the maintenance process.
The paint on the car is in good condition and you use it regularly.
You want good security in a limited budget.
When is the 10H upgrade beneficial?
Select 10H if:

The car's paint is deep or solid in colour, with scratches easily visible.
It is a luxury or premium car that you want to keep for 5 years or more
The car has been parked outside Ahmedabad for a long time.
You want the longest warranty.

Be cautious about marketing
Some studios promote 11H or 12H coatings these ratings are not industry-standard and are usually the language of marketing. The pencil hardness test is only up to 10H. If a studio gives higher ratings, ask for technical data sheets.
